The main line to London has recently seen much investment with electrification having just taken place. Brand new electric units ferry commuters and holiday makers to and from the capital.
The station still has facilities to handle loco hauled excursion traffic some of which comes from the midlands via the Stour Valley line.
A branch line to Ipswich is operated by Derby Lightweight and Cravens Diesel Units, but traffic is light and will be unlikely to survive the coming axe.
A small yard handles traffic for the chocolate factory.
